Mindfulness Monday

Mindfulness is “a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique” (google dictionary).

I recently attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at our local park here in Ohio and was reminded that we need to be mindful every day. I admit, sometimes I need to be mindful every minute of the day. Especially on a stressful day. How does stress affect my life? Am I too busy to catch a breath and live in the moment? What’s my body telling me?

You might ask, “How can I be mindful?” I asked myself this at the park while taking the “mindfulness” walk. The best things that help me be mindful are as follows:

I sit quietly and watch things…. Birds, flowers, bugs, or even leaves. The tiniest things in life make me happy!

I try to remain calm in rough situations. I usually walk away. I hate confrontation! However, once things calm down I look at the situation and realize it wasn’t that bad after all.

Sometimes, crying works too! I’m not afraid to cry. You shouldn’t either! No matter how tough we think we are, it’s still ok to cry!

Last but not least, I have been known to scream in a pillow when things get rough for me. Yep, it works!

Do what works best for you to be mindful! As long as you are not hurting yourself nor anyone else.

BE MINDFUL!!!!!! BE HAPPY!!!
